Imagine a magical summer! Boating across a sparkling pond, cooking your own lunch over a campfire or making a dream catcher. Each day at Camp Kettleford begins in your unit, one of twelve adirondack shelters, with girls your own age. Join your friends in the pavilion to try a new craft or song. There's a lodge for the nurse and trading post. Each day is different and special. Maybe you'll swim or boat in the pond, solve the puzzle of mystery hour, try a natural craft or create your own obstacle course. Camp Kettleford is a magical place where campers and staff can be exposed to the forgotten art of play and the joyous feeling of spending time in the outdoors. It is a place where girls meet challenges of many kinds and learn to be confident in their abilities as unique individuals.
Sandy McCarthy is returning for her 24th summer as the director at Camp Kettleford.
What is your best memory from camp as a camper?
I never attended camp as a camper.
If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Why
My favorite color is blue. What could be more beautiful than the sky or a lake? I think that the color blue is gentle. It makes me calm.
Do you have a favorite campfire food?
Taco Salad!
Tell us about your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
A rainy day, without thunder or lightening, can be a real adventure at camp. I like to puddle jump, [to hike, and sometime open my eyes under water to see the drops fall.
What is an outdoor activity that you enjoy doing?
Any outdoor activity is fun for me. I especially like to hike, play field games and swim.
What is the reason you come to camp every summer?
Children desperately need time to learn and play in the out doors. I love being part of creating that environment. There is nothing like seeing girls thrive in the camp setting.
