Can you believe, not far from downtown Portsmouth, there's a Girl Scout Camp?

We offer a wonderful fun-filled adventure that's close to home. Warm, caring counselors guide your child through one or two weeks of fun and adventure. Seawood features tall pine trees and lots of small wildlife. There is a Program Center and seven Adirondack shelters.

Your camper will enjoy making new friends, learning new skills, and having fun swimming off site.  Lifetime skills will be gained by attending our camp.

Meet the Director

Ruth "Buckets" Glazier, is returning for her fourth summer at Seawood. She has been involved in Girl Scouts for 16 years as an adult and 10 years as a young girl. Ruth has also been a leader for 13 years, working with all age levels; a service unit manger, trainer and program event coordinator. She looks forward to sharing her experiences and excitement with the girls for an exciting summer at camp.

What is your best memory from camp as a camper?

Meeting new friends and sending letters back and forth years after!

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?  Why?

Blue (all shades) - makes me think about the sky and outdoors.  I love looking up to the sky and looking the clouds.  I also enjoy pointing out the shapes of the clouds.

Tell us about your favorite thing to do on a rainy day at camp.

I love to hike in the rain (with my raincoat on), sing songs and visit other units.  Cook chats are also very fun.

What is an outdoor activity that you enjoy doing?

Cooking and singing by the campfire.  Beginning with building the fire and creating new recipes.

Do you have a favorite campfire food?

I love to make pizza, eclaires, and s'mores.  Hot dogs on a stick are delicious, too!

What is the reason you come to camp every summer?

I can't wait to see all the happy campers and have fun with everyone.  I also love being outside and enjoying nature.

A Typical Day at Camp Seawood

9:00 Arrive at camp! Campers come by bus or are dropped off. We begin each day with an opening flag ceremony where each unit gets to take a turn raising our flag. We also use this time for daily announcements.

9:15 Activities with unit

12:00 Lunch

12:30 Activities with unit

3:30 Closing flag ceremony

4:00 Campers head home! Either on the bus or picked up by parents

What are some of these cool activities that a unit can do?

Popular activities during the day might include going swimming, going to the program center for crafts, or participating in an All Camp activity. As a unit, your camper will work with her counselors and fellow campers to plan out their week around the theme of the program they registered for. They might put on a play, cook over a fire, or go on a hike. There are lots of ways to have fun at Camp Seawood, from celebrating the theme of the session to heading to Odiorne Point to do some tide pooling.
