New Changes for Volunteers

We are happy to share that we have heard your concerns and have made some positive changes. We have just released an updated version of our Council Policies & Procedures for Volunteers. One of the major updates relates to the Adult Learning Procedure.

NEW:  The following are courses as required by Council Policy for volunteers providing direct service to girls. This training course requirement does not apply to short-term volunteers with no more than two, 3-hour days of volunteer time.

Course                                                          Required
Girl Scouting 101 (GS101)                              Before working with girls or adults. *
Volunteer Essentials                                       Before working with girls or adults. * (but NOT required for drivers)
Pathway Specific Course                               Before working with girls or adults. * (but NOT required for drivers or event chaperones)
(Troop, Series, etc.)

*One Leader with the troop MUST be fully trained BEFORE the troop can begin meeting. Other co-leaders and assistant leaders with the troop must be fully trained as soon as possible.

Girl Scouting 101 (GS101) is a new course from Girl Scouts of the USA.  It is an online course that takes about 45 minutes.  Click here to view it.  The password is aboutGS101. It is case-sensitive. This course replaces the Online Volunteer Orientation that we used to require. The Pathway Specific course for troop leaders is now called Troop FUNdamentals. It is replacing Leadership Essentials and Troop Essentials.

These new adult learning process will be for new volunteers coming into the system starting today.  Anyone who has already completed training, does not need to do these. If someone is in the process and not sure what their next steps should be, they can contact Kristine Jones.
