Volunteer Positions

Direct Service Volunteers

work directly with girls in one of the six Pathways

Troop Leader/Troop Assistants - has the enthusiasm and ability to generate girls’ interests and curiosities about the ways that they can discover themselves, connect with the others, and take action to make the world a better place through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).

Adventure Specialist - shares expertise or develops an expertise in areas like archery, canoeing, climbing, lifeguarding, geocaching, and letterboxing; teaches girls skills on outings or trips.

Camp Directors/Counselors (staff) - plan and supervise summer day camp programs usually located in community buildings, local parks, or camps. Many positions available, click here for a link to positions.

Camp Qualified Adult - has taken Basic Outdoor Living Skills training and is willing to meet with troops/groups to prepare the girls for a camping trip and to attend the trip with them.

Event Leaders/Event Assistants - responsible for implementation of area, regional, or council events by completing tasks assigned in partnership with adults and girls.

First Aider - accompanies troop on activities, events and trips; provides emergency aid when needed. Certified in both First Aid and CPR.

Helping Adult - offers expertise, time or resources to troop leader/assistant, for instance chaperones or drives for a trip, shops for activity supplies, makes telephone calls, or helps at a troop meeting.

Lead Camp Advisor/Camp Advisor - responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of volunteer-run camps. She or he also is responsible for the coordination of program planning and implementation, and facilitating girl-led experiences for the duration of the camp experience.

Lead Series Advisors/Series Advisors - responsible for the implementation of a series opportunity, supervision of the girls who participate, and coordination of logistics.

Lead Travel Advisors/Travel Advisors - works with the Travel Pathway Coordinator in the development, planning, implementation, and oversight of volunteers for travel opportunities that provide high-quality experiences for girls.

Lifeguard - certified Lifeguard who is willing to supervise girls in swimming, boating, etc.

Troop or other Pathway Product Sales Coordinator - works with troops to ensure that product sales and educational goals are aligned to the GSLE and are being met. Facilitates all aspects of product sale program with girls.

Virtual Program Advisors - responsible for the implementation of virtual program opportunities, supervision of the girls who participate, and coordination of logistics.

Community Team Volunteers

work in a local area, usually made up of several towns who work together as a Community. These volunteers do not work directly with girls, they support the volunteers who are working with the girls.

Community Accounting Coordinator - responsible for managing all bank-account applications for troops, groups and community teams and maintaining a current database of bank account information to include the names of current signers on all accounts. He or she helps troop to open and close accounts, provides Troop/Group bank account support and maintains the Community bank account. He or she is also responsible for reviewing and submitting annual financial reports to the District Accounting Organizer in a timely manner.

Community Learning Coordinator - responsible for orienting new volunteers in their communities and identifying the learning and networking needs to promote building leadership skills of volunteers within the assigned jurisdiction.

Community Membership Fund Coordinator - responsible for overseeing the Membership Fund Campaign in an assigned jurisdiction.

Community Product Sale Coordinator - works in partnership with the District Product Sale Organizer to ensure that product sales and educational goals are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and are being met. Trains and supports Troop Product Sale Coordinators.

Community Recruiter - responsible for the recruitment of girls to join through one or more of the defined and available pathways of participation in Girl Scouting. She or he is also responsible for the recruitment of adult volunteers within their assigned jurisdiction to join through flexible participation options.

Community Registrar- manages the girl, adult and troop annual registration process for a community.

Community Troop Pathway Coordinator - responsible for ensuring all program offerings align to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and establishing and placing girls in troops. She or he provides logistical support to all troop volunteers within assigned jurisdiction.

New Volunteer Mentor - responsible for providing ongoing support and resources to newly appointed volunteers.

Volunteer Support Coordinator - responsible for overseeing volunteers who promote volunteer retention by ensuring preparation, communication, and support for Girl Scout volunteers within the assigned jurisdiction.

District Volunteers

work in a larger geographic area called a District. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains has ten Districts. In many cases, District-level volunteers support and train the Community Team volunteer in their area of expertise. For example, the District Accounting Organizer supports all Community Accounting Coordinators within a district. These people are the experts in one functional area, like recruiting, product sales, registration or accounting. These volunteers do not work directly with girls.

Communications Organizer - responsible for coordinating communication between Council and volunteers within assigned jurisdiction. She or he manages online tools for communication within the jurisdiction.

Cookie Cupboard Coordinator - manages distribution of additional cookies during the cookie sale. Majority of cupboards are at homes; pick-up by appointments. Computer and strong computer skills are recommended to manage inventory. March commitment.

District Accounting Organizer - responsible for supporting and supervising all Community Accounting Coordinators within her or his jurisdiction. She or he is also responsible for receiving and reviewing annual financial reports from the Community Accounting Coordinators and communicating the findings to the Council Finance staff.

District Learning Coordinator - oversees and supports Facilitators within an assigned area and monitors and evaluates adult learning within that are.

District Product Sale Organizer - responsible for ensuring that all girls within the assigned jurisdiction reach their sales and educational goals by coordinating all aspects of the product sale, which is aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). Supports and trains Community Product Sale Coordinators.

District Registrar Organizer - trains and supervises the Community Registrars on how to register online and serve as the liaison between the Community Registrars and GSGWM staff to assure efficient and accurate processing and updating of membership information.

District Troop Pathway Coordinator - responsible for ensuring all program offerings within the jurisdiction align to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and assisting with the development and marketing of new troops. She or he provides logistical support to all troop volunteers within assigned jurisdiction.

Event Pathway Coordinator - responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and oversight of volunteers for event offerings at the community level that provide high-quality experiences for girls that are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).

Facilitator - responsible for delivering courses, workshops, and resources to individuals and/or groups of volunteers in order to orient, prepare, and support them throughout their appointment.

Membership and Community Development Organizer - responsible for overseeing and mobilizing a team of recruiters who ensure Girl Scouting is available to all girls within the defined jurisdiction based on target markets and membership strategy.

Membership Fund Organizer - responsible for overseeing the Membership Fund Campaign in an assigned District.

Series Pathway Coordinator - responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of series offerings that provide high-quality activities for girls and are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).

Take Action and Awards Mentors - a committee that advises girls in the planning, implementation, and documentation of take-action projects and Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Award projects. They also coordinate the decision-making process for approving and awarding these projects and awards by the committee.

Volunteer Customer Service Representative - provides exemplary ongoing support to girl and adult customers by answering phone calls and/or e-mail questions, processing paperwork, and connecting customers to appropriate information or staff/volunteer.

Volunteer Recruiter - responsible for the recruitment of adult volunteers within identified target markets to join Girl Scouts through flexible participation options.

Council Volunteers

work in a capacity that benefits the entire Council. They may be helping to organize all of the Cookie Cupboards, working as a committee or task group with the CEO or Senior Leadership or coordinating travel or virtual opportunities for girls in the entire Council. These volunteers do not work directly with girls.

Adult Recognitions Committee - conducts informal and formal appreciation events; promotes and coordinates the official award process for the Council.

Camp Pathway Coordinator - responsible for establishing, planning, and implementing volunteer-led, outdoor experiences for girls that are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), such as day camps, camporees, encampments, or other community overnight camps.

Community Champions - represent Girl Scouting within identified communities by leading task groups, participating on community committees, and advising staff and volunteers on how best to cultivate relationships within identified communities, based on target markets and membership strategy.

Cookie Cupboard Organizer - oversees, trains, and supports the District Cookie Cupboard Coordinators to ensure that an adequate inventory of Girl Scout Cookies is available for Girl Scout troops to obtain cookies for cookie sales. He or she will also assist the Director of Product Programs with obtaining cookie cupboard locations, overseeing adequate inventory in the cupboards, reducing the inventory to zero by the end of the sale and other logistics of the Cookie Cupboard process. The nature of this position requires the individual to provide indirect service to girls.

Gold Award Committee - advises girls in the planning, implementation and documentation of Girl Scout Gold Award projects.

Speakers Bureau - responsible for articulating our value within their designated communities.

Social Media Teen Liaison - responsible for advising Council staff about the use of social media to reach girl members (part of a team of three to five teens). She may support Council social media efforts on behalf of the council, hosting a girl column on the Council website, and/or maintaining communication through the newest social-media trends. This position is available to Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors.

Take Action and Awards Committee Organizer - coordinates the Take Action and Awards Mentors. She or he collaborates with the Gold Award Committee. She or he also coordinates the decision-making process for approving and awarding these projects and awards by the committee.

Travel Pathway Coordinator - responsible for overseeing a travel committee that ensures volunteers and girls participating in national or council travel opportunities receive the proper preparation and support for their travel experience. He or she does not attend the trips, but provides expertise and logistical support to ensure successful travel.

Virtual Pathway Coordinator- responsible for overseeing the planning, development and implementation of virtual program offerings that provide high-quality activities for girls and are aligned to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).

Volunteer Interviewer - gathers relevant information about potential volunteer candidates while assessing which positions volunteers are best suited to fill.
