Bank makes $7,000 donation to Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains
MANCHESTER, NH | Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains received a generous $7,000 donation from Citizens Bank on April 19 in support of its programming to promote financial literacy for girls. Citizens Bank celebrates Financial Literacy Month in April through its internationally recognized Citizens Helping Citizens Manage Money program.
This program provides the means for Girl Scouts to teach underserved and low-income families who have girls in after-school outreach troops the financial skills they need to succeed in life. Financial literacy has long been a cornerstone of the Girl Scout leadership curriculum, with 23 percent of the 132 Girl Scout badges requiring financial literacy skills. In fact, the Girl Scout Cookie Program is often the first introduction to business planning for girls, combining a research-and-outcomes-based curriculum, online learning, and the Girl Scout Cookie Sale – the largest girl-led financial literacy program in the world.
Partnering with Citizens Bank allows Girl Scouts throughout New Hampshire and Vermont to bring this powerful programming to girls free from barriers, with all programming fully subsidized and offered in safe and familiar locations like schools and community centers.
Last year, the majority of participants reported that the Girl Scout Cookie Program and associated financial literacy activities were their favorite part of the year. One troop leader said, “The cookie booth was the big winner … the activity was successful and I could see the girls having fun AND learning.”
At the heart of Girl Scouts’ programming are STEM, outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship. Girl Scouts unleashes the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ in every girl, preparing her for a lifetime of leadership.
