BEDFORD, NH – Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains teamed up with Eversource NH on Aug. 20, as the energy company presented a $1,500 donation to the council, and provided lessons in safety as well as lunch to the Girl Scouts attending day camp at Camp Kettleford.

“We’re proud to support the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains as they empower young women across our state and help prepare them for future success,” said Eversource NH President Bill Quinlan. “Our employees enjoyed the opportunity to engage the campers at Camp Kettleford in exciting activities to help teach them about what we do to provide safe, reliable electric service and advance clean energy in the region. These girls represent the future of the highly skilled workforce that all of our businesses need to grow and thrive.”

Eversource gets many requests for charitable giving, and Girl Scouts fit their desire to help organizations who are making a difference in the environment, education, and economic development. With Girl Scouts’ strong focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), as embodied in the many new badges Girl Scouts can earn, Eversource saw a great fit.

After serving lunch to the hungry campers, Eversource employees presented a safety program that included giving a ride in their bucket truck to a camp counselor, conducting relay races where they girls had to dress in lineworker gear, and talked about vegetation management and why it’s important to know where to plant trees. The company welcomed the chance to work with girls, given their commitment to the better of girls and women, and their focus on science, electricity, and outdoor safety.

The campers were excited to see their counselor ride high in the air, chanting her name as the bucket lifted her to the treetops. An Eversource arborist made a powerful impression on the girls as he held up a charred tree branch as an example of what happens when a tree grows too close to power lines.

The $1,500 donation to Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains from Eversource NH will be put toward the Girl Scout Leadership Experience programming provided to more than 10,000 girls across New Hampshire and Vermont.
