Girl Scouts, troops and families, learn how trees make sugar through a humorous puppet show featuring a talking Maple Tree and her leaves and roots. You will also learn how maple sugaring was begun by Native People of our region long ago. This is an active outdoor class where students learn to identify maple trees without their leaves, measure, drill and set a tap. They will empty sap buckets into a wood-fired evaporator and taste the results. There will be time for sap bucket and shoulder yoke races! We will also do a taste test of real vs artificial syrup. A snack of maple popcorn, hot cocoa, and a craft are also included. Sugaring time is the true beginning of spring so don't miss this fun class at Maple Hill Farm!
Facilitated by our program partner Beaver Brook.
