Bow woman honored by Girl Scout council for her work

Alexandra Lafond receives Thanks Badge
CONCORD, NH – Alexandra “Allie” Lafond has been recognized for her contributions as a Girl Scout troop leader and other activities with the council’s Thanks Badge. She was pinned at a ceremony on Dec. 11 in Concord.
Lafond, 33, of Bow, has led Girl Scout Troop 60258 for five years. It currently has 21 girl members in different age groups. She has completed Basic Outdoor Living Skills training, attended an alum gathering called Farnsworth Weekend, is a member of the council’s Alumnae Advisory Board, was a National Council delegate to Girl Scouts of the USA, and was on a task force to update the council’s human resource policies and procedures. She also took part in a 2019 Juliette Low Seminar in Peru as part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, which she followed up by creating a program to connect with 100 girls ages 12 and up about leadership.
Lafond is “a bright light in our council who works tirelessly with her troop,” said Kelli Brown, director of fund development for Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, the council serving New Hampshire and Vermont.
Lafond joined the council’s Alumnae Advisory Board in 2020, serving for two years, and was instrumental in creating a mentor program that paired graduating Girl Scouts with Girl Scout alums.
Deborah Drake, also a member of the Alumnae Advisory Board, said Lafond consistently goes beyond the responsibilities of her position.
“She is appreciative of everyone’s time, commitment, and contributions and is an effective organizer and communicator,” said Drake. “Allie has been working on the Service Subcommittee looking for opportunities for alumnae to give back to Girl Scouts and communities. She is thoughtful and creative in her approach to trying to keep things active and fresh.”
Chief Executive Officer Patricia Mellor lauded Lafond’s dedication, noting her participation on the council’s Board Governance Committee.
“She helps ensure board training and the continuation of our council leadership,” said Mellor. “Since Allie is not a board member, she provides a unique perspective and conducts the majority of exit interviews to gather feedback from outgoing board members. She also provides training to the board and seeks other resources to further the board’s development.”
We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
