Try one or more of our online programs to design a 3D object, then have it printed on the council’s 3D printer, Juliette Gordon Lowbot! Each program is designed for all Girl Scout levels to be able to complete (with some adult help of course!).
In the beginner-level program, you'll make a trefoil necklace/keychain and learn the basics of 3D object design in Tinkercad. In addition to making a really cool wearable item, you'll learn the concept of adding 3D shapes to a workplane, how to change their size and orientation, how to group multiple objects, and how to cut out a piece of a shape.
In the intermediate-level program, you'll make a custom coaster and learn the next step of 3D object design in Tinkercad. You'll learn the concept of using SVG files to expand on the types of shapes available, how to make a raised or inset design on a flat surface, and how to remove excess material.
In the advanced-level program, you'll make a box with a sliding lid and test the limits of 3D object design in Tinkercad. You'll learn to create multiple pieces that fit together to create a functional object and work from additional workplanes.
These programs are designed to be completed at your own pace. At the end of the program, you will send in your Tinkercad file to be printed on our 3D printer in your filament color of choice. Finished projects may be picked up at a Mountain Top Shop location (Bedford, NH; Thetford, VT; or South Burlington, VT) or shipped for an additional fee. We recommend starting with the beginner program and working your way up to the advanced program, but starting with the beginner program is not required. Girl Scouts with prior 3D design knowledge may wish to start with the intermediate or advanced projects based on the design skills listed in the description.
