Council is grateful to moving company for their help during cookie season
The logistics of moving millions of Girl Scout Cookies from the baker to Girl Scouts and ultimately to the buyer is enormous. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains depends upon the expertise and services of Able Moving and Storage Co., Inc., of Amherst to have a successful cookie season, and has done so for 21 years.
“Able is a reliable and enthusiastic partner for our council,” said Kristel Rigoli, vice president revenue and operations for the council, “enabling us to store 75,000 cases of cookies, and distributing those cookies over eight weeks from beginning of February through March. Sharon and Leo are wonderful to work with.”
“Able Moving and Storage and Law Family Companies are proud to partner with Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains,” said Sharon Zayas, general manager of Able Moving. “Able Moving has been servicing the Green and White Mountains community since 2003. Each year our employees look forward to working with this wonderful organization. It truly embodies the meaning of ‘teamwork.’”
This year, Girls Scouts of the Green and White Mountains ordered 1.2 million packages of cookies. Able alone is responsible for distributing nearly 75% of that for the initial delivery to communities and cookie cupboards – smaller storage spots in members’ garages, self-storage rentals, and more across New Hampshire and Vermont. Most people are familiar with the sight of Girl Scouts at a table outside a store where they can buy and donate cookies right on the spot.
It’s a commitment of about six to seven weeks as cookies are sold between early February and mid-March. It takes the muscles and time of numerous volunteers to move all those cookies.
Corinne George is the Community Product Sale Coordinator for Girl Scout Service Unit 216, which encompasses the towns of Durham, Lee, Madbury, Nottingham, Barrington and Strafford. In a post to her Facebook community called Circle of Friends, she said “THANK YOU to all of the volunteers that joined us today to unload, count, sort, carry and do that over and over and over! … We moved 1,586 cases today… each case comes off the truck one at a time…. Congrats to our community for selling 19,032 boxes of cookies for the initial order!”
Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains is proud to partner with Able Moving and Storage, once again making this year’s Girl Scout Cookie season a great success. Cookies are what power the programs, staff, and facilities provided by Girl Scouts and enable each Girl Scout to set her goals for her cookie proceeds while learning valuable life and business skills that prepare her for a bright future.
We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
