Girl Scouts deliver cookies and care to veterans home
Amherst and Mont Vernon troops donate 350 packages of cookies as part of Gift of Caring
TILTON, NH – Amherst and Mont Vernon Girl Scouts shared cookies and their time with the residents of the New Hampshire Veterans Home on April 6.
Girl Scout Troop 69262 of Amherst coordinated the collection of cookies, gathering 350 packages of Thin Mints, Samoas, and more to the delight of the residents at the home. They were joined by Amherst and Mont Vernon Troops 51955, 22707, and 64300. They did not just drop the treats off but spent an afternoon playing a variety of games with the veterans, who were thrilled to receive the cookies and attention from the Girl Scouts.
Cookie donations are an important part of the Girl Scout Cookie program. When you buy Girl Scout Cookies and donate them through the council’s Gift of Caring program, you provide a sweet treat to the military, hometown heroes, and first responders in your community, along with providing the funding that enables Girl Scouts to participate in life-changing, girl-led programs, experiences, and learning all year long.
The Gift of Caring program has provided 22,000 packages to hometown heroes including military, first responders, food pantries, Red Cross, veterans’ homes, and more so far this year.
Over 4,300 Girl Scouts participated in the cookie program, gaining entrepreneurial skills and earning rewards such as membership for 2025 and credits toward council events. This year, 173 girls sold 1,000 packages and could choose between a week at camp or design their own custom sneaker plus donate a pair of shoes to a child in need. In addition, troops earned over $1.15 million in proceeds to fund girl experiences across the two states.
We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
