Fairy wands from nature
Troop 64100 of Essex Junction, VT, displays fairy wands they made while camping at Camp Twin Hills at the end of September. Leader Rebecca said: This was our first troop meeting at Twin Hills. Some of the girls has spent a week there for camp and were eager to share what they learned with the other scouts: the soap in a tree, trails connecting the structures, rules about protecting nature! Our Daisies created beautiful fairy wands with elements of nature they discovered (leaves, moss, sticks, flowers and grass). Our Brownies worked together to pitch a tent! Together, we made snack mix connecting what we observed (sights and sound) during our time outdoors: mini marshmallows look like clouds and mushrooms, paper bags sound like leaves, pretzel sticks remind us of tree twigs! We can’t wait to spend a night camping there soon.
The final photo is of their bridging ceremony.
An apple quest
Troop 63357 of Barre, VT, is working on their Apple Quest badges. They started off with a trip to Burtt’s Orchard, where they learned about apple trees from owner Greg Burtt. At their next meeting, they made apple cookbooks and apple stamps.
Bridging in Barre
Several members of Troop 63357 of Barre, VT, bridged to Junior and Cadette. They celebrated with a bridging ceremony and a game of Pin the Badge on the Girl Scout.
Catching up with Troop 61345 of Concord, NH
In the spring, They made bluebird boxes according to the National Audubon's instructions and went rock-climbing.
In June, they participated in the Citizen Science project, the Great Green Crab Hunt by collecting and counting invasive green crabs along the New Hampshire coast. They also found and identified invasive Asian Shore Crabs (pictured).
In the summer, the whole troop and parents came together to go to the Isle of Shoals with the Seacoast Science Center. They used their cookie proceeds to charter a boat! They explored the island, did some tide-pooling, and then got to see lots of seals on the shoals on the boat ride back to Kittery.
In September, they did some geocaching and painted watercolors of fallen leaves.
They camped at Bear Brook State Park at the end of the month with 11 girls.
At their most recent meeting, they addressed some clique-iness that took place during their campout and painted kindness rocks.
A few of our girls made it to the Expo.
The troop went to Rye beach to participate in the NH Coastal Cleanup. This is now an annual tradition for the troop, as they've done it three years in a row and plan to continue!
To practice saving energy, they took the bus from Concord to Manchester and went to the Currier Museum. After learning about art from a docent and having some time to explore the museum on their own, they walked to 900 Degrees for pizza and then back to the bus stop. They enjoyed good weather and even though the bus back to Concord was a little late, they had fun playing in the leaves while they waited for it.
Getting a clue
Troop 64100 of Essex Junction, VT, visited Camp Twin Hills on the Sunday morning of the council’s Get A Clue weekend.
Event leader “Flask” share more photos of the weekend:
Flask said: Get a Clue was a traditional Girl Scout camping weekend combined with a massive immersive escape room style puzzle set, with over two dozen puzzles spread out over five acres and designed to be solved over three days. Our Girl Scouts had to dive into obsolete technology, old Girl Scout handbooks, and weird props. They had to think about and manipulate familiar objects in new and unexpected ways to reveal hidden clues in an environment where anything, including meals, could be a puzzle. On Saturday afternoon we had an optional archery session, and on Saturday night we had a campfire with Girl Scouts of my mother's generation. Their final puzzle was given to them at the conclusion of their last task, which was to plan and carry out a song, and activity, and a short ceremony with a local Brownie/Daisy troop. The puzzle threads followed themes of light, water, history, Girl Scouting, outdoor skills, the senses, and random weird stuff. As each thread concluded, they were able to unlock one key on the final boss box.
Participating in the Get A Clue weekend were Troop 58123 of Proctor, VT; Troop 51350 of Fremont, NH; Troop 30921 of Williston, VT; Troop 30463 Hinesburg, VT; Troop 30123 of Huntington, VT; Troop 30056 of Barre, VT; Troop 13940 of South Burlington, VT; Troop 10097 of Berlin, NH; and one individual registered Girl Scout.

Girl Scouts on horseback
Troop 61654 of Wolcott, VT, has been working on getting their horse riding badges. It’s easy work when Girl Scouts are doing something they love. They visited Sugarwoods, a local horse facility that offers horse riding lessons to learn about grooming and tacking up the horses. They each got to do some grooming, learned proper saddling, and finished off with leading a horse around the arena. Next the troop visited Lajoie Stables to do a trail ride. Here they each got own horse and were able to ride throughout trails on a guided tour, stopping to take in views for some pictures.
