Local council recognized for initiatives in troop support and career exploration
CHICAGO – Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, the council serving New Hampshire and Vermont, was recognized with three awards at the annual Leadership Summit hosted by Girl Scouts of the USA April 21-24.
The summit is an opportunity for Girl Scout councils across the country to work collaboratively to bring the Movement’s three-year strategy to life. Participating from the local council were CEO Patricia K. Mellor, Vice President of Engagement Carrie Green Loszewski and Vice President of Revenue and Operations Kristel Rigoli.
The council won awards for innovations in Increased Diversity in Girl Scouting, Expanded Ways to Experience Girl Scouting, and overall in the medium council category for those initiatives.
For the diversity award, the council created physical binders of information that were provided to new troop leaders, providing a convenient resource for their volunteer experience. The binders complemented the support provided by staff and community team members, increasing retention of leaders and Girl Scouts.
For the expanded experiences, the council is planning its first-ever FutureFest, a career exploration event that will bring together Girl Scouts and their families with professionals, career experts and companies for workshops and presentations. FutureFest will promote the life skills that Girl Scouts builds in its members. It is planned for May 30, 2026, in Burlington, Vermont.
The council already hosts a large event called The Expo in New Hampshire that provides the public and its members a chance to explore the wide variety of programming opportunities available through Girl Scouting and participating exhibitor displays. The next Expo is set for Oct. 4 in Bedford.
“We are honored to be recognized and I’m proud of the creativity and forward-thinking ideas of our staff,” said Mellor.
“Girl Scouting has been a part of our communities for over 105 years and we continue to adapt and change to meet the needs of our members and volunteers,” said Loszewski. “These recent innovations are two great examples of how we continue to incorporate feedback to ensure the best experience possible.”
Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains is aligned with the goals of the summit, which include a customer-focused strategy to reach new markets with a DEIRJ lens, new program delivery models and volunteer resources, brand positioning, and expansion and diversification of revenue streams.

We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
