Gov. Kelly Ayotte presents proclamation to area Girl Scouts at State House
CONCORD, NH – Gov. Kelly Ayotte welcomed a group of Girl Scouts to her office today to proclaim March 9-15 Girl Scout Week in New Hampshire. It is also a national week of celebration that includes the 113th anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouts of the USA on March 12, 1912.
Accepting the proclamation were CEO Patricia K. Mellor of Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, the council serving New Hampshire and Vermont; Courtney Morin of the council’s board of directors; Girl Scout Junior Anne Felong, Girl Scout Junior Riley Podraza, and Girl Scout Cadettes Addison Sargent and Elizabeth Sargent from Troop 58710 in Pembroke/Concord; Girl Scout Junior Sydney Mackey from Troop 62031 and Girl Scout Daisy Peyton Mackey from Troop 64322, both in Merrimack; Girl Scout Cadette Dalia Corbett from Troop 60180 in Loudon; Girl Scout Brownie Sehanya Ranasingha from Troop 63487 in Derry; Girl Scout Daisies Noelle Iani and Nancy Tobey of Troop 65830 in Atkinson; and Gold Award Girl Scout Kaelyn Gagnon, a Girl Scout Ambassador in Troop 13912 in Merrimack.
“It’s an honor be recognized here by the governor,” said Mellor. “We really are building the future leaders of this country. We teach girls to have courage, confidence, and character in order to improve their communities and the world around them, and I want to thank all of you for supporting these young women as they step into adulthood.”
Girl Scouts everywhere are marking today as National Girl Scout Day. Throughout the week, they are celebrating the founding of Girl Scouts at birthday events, online baking lessons, an engineering challenge, and an opportunity webinar along with simply wearing their Girl Scout colors. Many are involved in the Girl Scout Cookie program, becoming young entrepreneurs with their own cookie businesses. To donate or stock up on Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs and more, find a cookie booth through the Cookie Finder at www.girlscoutsgwm.org and click on Cookies. You can also text COOKIES to 59618 to find a booth nearby.
We Are Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
