Troop Spotlight: August 2023

Girl Scouts around our council are always active – camping,
traveling, doing service projects, and making the world a better
place. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains invites all Girl
Scouts in our council to share photos of their adventures,
achievements, projects, and more. Send your photos to us at customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org.
Be sure to include a description of the event, your troop number and
levels involved, when it took place, and any other relevant
information.
Local Girl Scouts attend Phenom and National Council session
Five Cadettes from Salem, NH, Troop 51943 went to Orlando, Florida, for Phenom at the National Convention. Lexi, Bella, Morgann (all going into 8th grade), and Sophia and Mackenzie (going into 7th grade) had a blast at the opening ceremony, exchanging SWAPS, shooting archery, participating in some mentoring sessions, exploring the Hall of Experiences, and meeting Girl Scouts from around the country.
Leader Amanda reports: “They also learned about travel opportunities in Savannah, Georgia, and at the WAGGGGS properties. At the Education Day at EPCOT, Lauren and I (their leaders), taught them how to network. They met Maryann, VP of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Bella talked to Maryann about opportunities to do photography in Animal Kingdom, and Lexi talked to her about veterinary opportunities at Animal Kingdom. Of course, we added on some extra days to our trip so we could visit the Walt Disney World parks. It was amazing proudly wearing our Girl Scouts troop shirts and having other adult Girl Scouts stop us throughout Walt Disney World to talk to the girls and share stories about how GS has impacted their lives. This trip was everything that we wanted for our Cadettes - and more! We’re looking forward to another convention trip in 2026!”
Delainy from Troop 62244 of Rochester, NH, finally met her pen pal from California at the convention. They went to Magic Kingdom together.
Girl Scout Junior Laura of Troop 58806 in Winooski, VT, enjoyed the convention and Phenom, getting a chance to post with GSUSA CEO Bonnie Barczykowski and in a NASA space suit.
Girl Scouts see the Alps and Mediterranean on Destinations trip
Twenty Girl Scouts from both our council and from across the country traveled abroad July 19-31. Their trip started in Switzerland where they explored Zurich, and then spent two days in Adelboden at Our Chalet where they took part in programming offered by Our Chalet volunteers, as well as a pinning ceremony. After Our Chalet, they explored Lucerne, Switzerland, and traveled to the top of Mt. Pilatus via gondola and back down via a Cog Railway. After Switzerland, they traveled to Italy; Monaco; Nice, France; and Carcassone, a walled medieval village. They were then off to Spain, where they stayed in the small beach town of Calella and traveled into Barcelona.
Firefighters and cookies
The Girl Scouts of Troop 51293 in Springfield, VT, collected cookies donated during the cookie program and delivered them to the Springfield Fire Department. They enjoyed a full tour of the fire station when they brought the goodies over.
Bedford troop takes action
Troop 58108 in Bedford, NH, delivered cookies to their local food pantry, then headed out to work on their Shapes in Nature badge at the Seacoast Science Center and the local beaches.
Picture this paraders
Belmont, NH, Troop 60200 participated in the Belmont Old Home Day Parade on August 12. The theme for the parade was "Picture This". They made frames to highlight the activities we participate in including cookies, camping, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Wreath Laying and Flag Planting, as well as Operation Santa Claus and Reverse Santa. The Memorial Day frame includes information about a coworker of a troop leader’s mother who loved having the younger generation participate in veteran affairs.
Under the sea
Members of Troop 12580 of Hillsboro, NH, spent a day at the Seacoast Science Center and explored the tide pools on August 17.
Giant flag ceremony

Automotive skills
Troop 40907 of Vernon, VT, visited local garage to learn how to take care of a car because all the girls were going to get their driver’s licenses.
Summertime picnic
The troop in Service Unit 212 enjoyed a picnic in Newport, VT, on August 26. Hosted by council staff to help members in the area meet each other, all the area troops were invited, and everyone had a great time. One mother said it was the first mother-daughter time they’d had all summer!
Raising the bar
Claremont, NH, Troop 30261 celebrated the completion of a new accessible community garden bed. This is a Silver Award project that the girls worked hard on.
