The Girl Scouts hiked 1.5 miles through sunset and dusk and into the dark while they collected trash.
In December, they visited Concord Coalition Against Homelessness and learned about what they do to help people in their community, made holiday cards for people who use services provided by Concord Coalition Against Homelessness, and finished out the year by going ice-skating at the Everett Arena in Concord.
In January, they met at Worthy Mind and Movement, a yoga studio in Concord to do some yoga for My Best Self, and met at Revival Kitchen and Bar in Concord where they made granola in a commercial kitchen to work on their Snacks badge.
February means Valentine’s Day, so they made Valentines and collected stuffed animals to donate to Family Promise of Greater Concord which serves families with children experiencing homelessness. Later, they held their meeting at Epsom Central School, where they learned about what the school nurse does and earned their First Aid badge. They invited Brownies in Troop 12390, the Epsom Brownie troop, to this meeting - five attended in addition to six from their troop.
And in March, they met at Bonafide Green Goods, a store in Concord, to learn about alternatives to single-use plastics. They did a scavenger hunt for alternatives to common single-use plastic items, decorated reusable cotton bags to keep, and took home samples of bar shampoo to try, as part of Global Action and World Thinking Day. The troop also learned about the work of the American Red Cross and assembled fire preparedness bags for the Red Cross to hand out at upcoming public events in Rochester and Maine as a part of Global Action.
Troop 59165 creates Valentine’s Day joy
Girl Scouts in Bedford, NH, Troop 59165 decided that they wanted to do something to help the homeless community.
Leader Margo Houde said:
In reaching out to some of the different organizations in Manchester, we found out that Families in Transitions was looking to have someone plan and coordinate a Valentine's Day party for the children residing at their facility. Our girls jumped at the chance and used their materials and troop funds to put together an amazing celebration! Festivities included decorate your own cookie, bingo (including prizes!), coloring, bracelet making, Valentine making, and a few other fun crafts. They even put together "take and make" bags for the children to take with them for something to do later. Some of the children weren't able to join us at the party, so the girls put bags together for them that included everything from the party - cookies with supplies to decorate them, prizes and crafts! The girls did an amazing job and learned a lot about Families in Transitions and what they do for the community.

Troop 30456, St. Albans, VT
The Girl Scouts of Troop 30456 are loving cookie booth season in St. Albans! It wouldn't happen without support of the local businesses. Shout out to Rail City Market, Tatro's Soup & Sandwich and the co-op store in St. Albans. Bottom right, Mia conducts a taste test of all the flavors. The number one question Mia was asked when selling cookies was “Which one is your favorite?” So she had a cookie tasting at home! Her mom said they had fun ranking them. The verdict? Tagalongs! Closely followed by Adventurefuls and S’mores.
The troop has not decided yet what they will do with their proceeds. But Mia loves to do extra virtual activities to gain patches and plans to use her Program Credits for those.
