Troop Spotlight: February 2024

Girl Scouts around our council are always active – camping, traveling, doing service projects, and making the world a better place. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains invites all Girl Scouts in our council to share photos of their adventures, achievements, projects, and more. Send your photos to us at customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org. Be sure to include a description of the event, your troop number and levels involved, when it took place, and any other relevant information.
Concord troop catch-up
Troop 61345 in Concord, NH, has had a busy year so far. Leader Alison says:
November: We visited Owen Farm in Hopkinton and learned about the STEM career (towards STEM careers badge) of agriculture from Penny Owen, met the animals on the farm and learned about what the farmers do over the course of the year to care for them (towards Pets badge). The pic from this experience is of the girls in the shelter of the giant wind harp on the property.
We supported two of our troop members who performed as the youngest children in the Concord Community Theater production of "The Sound of Music." Our troop meeting was going to their performance.
December: We made holiday cards for the Concord Coalition Against Homelessness and had their Executive Director in as a speaker while we made "homes" out of recycled materials.
We learned about entrepreneurship in a delicious way from the Maddie Hatter cookie company and got to decorate and eat cookies.
We went ice-skating as a troop over winter break.
Also over break, we visited the DHHS public health water lab and got to learn a lot about STEM careers in chemistry, biology, and molecular biology and all about the various work the water lab does to monitor the safety of all kinds of water in our state. Bonus, all of the lab employees were women! Check out the lab coats and glasses they gave the girls to wear - they cover uniforms, but were ridiculously adorable and awesome!
January - cookies of course and the second half of our Entrepreneurship badge with Marcia Fletcher Interior Designs.
We're doing the Space Science badge through the Night at the Museum program at McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center in Concord and are finishing up our Pets badge with a day of volunteering (to walk dogs and pet puppies... oh so difficult) and weave dog toys at Darbster Doggy, a dog rescue organization in Chichester. Our troop had a great time at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord learning about life in space and doing our Space Science badge.
We are up to 17 girls in our troop of mostly Brownies and have yet to untangle a human knot without letting go.
