Troop Spotlight: June 2024

Girl Scouts around our council are always active – camping, traveling, doing service projects, and making the world a better place. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains invites all Girl Scouts in our council to share photos of their adventures, achievements, projects, and more. Send your photos to us at customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org. Be sure to include a description of the event, your troop number and levels involved, when it took place, and any other relevant information.
Archery rewards
Members of Troop 60248 in Bennington, NH, had a blast earning their archery badge on May 19. They learned fundamentals of archery and had invented archery challenges during a previous troop meeting, then put their knowledge into practice in a fun troop event. Things got particularly exciting when the candy-filled balloons came out!
Healthy foods, skating, animal help, and more in Nashua
Nashua Troop 63991 did a grocery store tour with dietician Alyssa Hickey. The girls learned about healthy foods, toured the cool storage area and ended the tour by making a yummy, healthy snack! The girls also had a blast at their troop ice skating party at Conway Arena. A number tried ice skating for the first time.
Troop 63991 also made cat stimulating toys and hidey box for their local animal shelter, Humane Society for Greater Nashua. The girls also toured the facility. The girls were fascinated by the Bearded Dragon lizard in this picture. The girls competed to build the sturdiest and tallest tower out of newspapers. The girls also made pancakes and Grinch fruit kabobs before the holidays.
Representing New Hampshire in Georgia
The Cadettes of Troop 60180 in Loudon, NH, had a big week!
They took their first trip by plane and went to Savannah, Georgia, to Juliette Gordon Low’s House! Back home in New Hampshire, they then received resolutions from Senator Pearl for earning their Bronze Awards last summer. They even spoke publicly in front of the entire state Senate, staff, and visitors during the May 30 Senate session.
Relay for Life
Troop 10633 from Manchester and 63222 from Merrimack, NH, volunteered today at the Greater Manchester Relay for Life event, held in Bedford. They helped with setup and handed out sashes, medals, and flowers to survivors and caregivers. They then cheered on the survivors and their caregivers as they walked the first lap.
Conquering the rock wall
Cadette Josie and Troop 61033 of Brookline, NH, enjoyed the Lofty Dreams Overnight event.
A night at a museum
Troop 30228 of Duxbury, VT, enjoyed the overnight program at the Fairbanks Museum.
Adventure in the mountains
Troop 52111 rented some camping equipment from the council and backpacked to xxxx, where they hiked in and camped overnight.
Geology rocks!
Troop 64878, which meets at the Smyth Road Elementary School in Manchester, NH, enjoyed a visit from the STEM on-the-go van and a chance to smash rocks to find the crystals inside.
Butterfly badge
Troop 63357 of Barre, VT, worked on their Bugs badge by learning about the life cycle of butterflies. They learned about insects through a fill-in-the-blank diagram after reading a book and then learned a song on how to remember the three parts of an insect. The butterfly lifecycle was introduced to the girls ahead of meeting with their painted lady caterpillars. Each girl got to take home two caterpillars to watch mature into beautiful butterflies and then release them.
Pie-iron pizzas
Culinary Explorers: Pie Iron Dinner & Desserts took place at Twin Hills on May 22. Girl Scouts made pizza pockets and smacos with pie irons with Tara Pacht, the council president and pie iron expert.
Green Up Day and making paper
Troop 63357 in Barre, VT, met early in the morning to clean up the bike paths and playgrounds in their community. After the cleanup, they enjoyed their time together on the playground.
The art of paper making with a mould and deckle is just as fun as it is functional! The girls learned the process and were given a demonstration. They took off on their own paper-making journey after that. The idea was to teach them that they can recycle scrap paper into perfectly new paper and use it for an end-of-year scrapbook.
Ready to camp
Ready, Set, Go Camping and BOLS training took place May 17-19 at Camp Farnsworth. We had two troops and four individuals join us for a weekend of camping fun!
Big bridging ceremony and adult recognitions
Girl Scouts in Service Unit 248 (located in southern New Hampshire) came together on June 9 for our first Service Unit Bridging Ceremony. Thirty girls ranging from first grade to tenth grade were recognized at the event. The Crotched Mountain School in Greenfield, NH, graciously let us use their auditorium for the ceremony.
Additionally, DeeDee Rice was in attendance and presented four of our leaders with volunteer recognitions. Martha Duffy and Christina Fuller received the Newfound Treasure award, and Andra Hall and Sonja Fritz received the Volunteer of Excellence award.

Some enchanted evening
Girl Scouts came out to Camp Twin Hills for an Enchanted Forest Overnight. They made fairy campsites outside of the Pixie Cabin (where the camp fairies live, of course!) and the fairies were so grateful they left behind lollipops and fairy dust!
They also sang songs, made s'mores, took an enchanted hike, and played enchanted gaga ball.
Animal advocates
Keene Girl Scout Troop 13028 visited Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary in Sullivan, NH, on June 13. The shelter takes in animals that need homes and they stay there until the day they die. The troop was working on their Animal Voices badge and decided to donate $200 of their cookie money to the sanctuary. Their contribution will be used for a hay feeder. This is a great place to visit if anyone is interested.
Daisy doings
Daisy Girl Scout Madalyn Ouellette enjoyed a Girl Scout Community Camporee at Camp Kettleford on June 8 and Girl Scout Night at the NH Fisher Cats game on June 15.
Exciting sleepover and zoo visit
Troop 60248 from Bennington, NH, had an amazing weekend trip to Fall River, MA, and Providence, RI. First they participated in the sleepover program on board the USS Massachusetts. The girls explored every nook and cranny of the ship, took a Morse code class and learned to use a telegraph machine, and learned all about this amazingly massive ship and the sailors who served on her. Climbing into the four-high bunks was an exciting way to go to bed!
The next day they went to the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence and saw all kinds of fantastic critters. The red panda, elephants, and giraffes were especially popular. Our girls even got to pet an armadillo! The girls had a blast with lots of stories and pictures to share when they got back home.
Artists at work
Concord, NH, Troops 20507, 20368, and 60258 volunteered over the three-day Market Days event in Concord to do face painting!
