Troop Spotlight: November 2024

Girl Scouts around our council are always active – camping, traveling, doing service projects, and making the world a better place. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains invites all Girl Scouts in our council to share photos of their adventures, achievements, projects, and more. Send your photos to us at customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org. Be sure to include a description of the event, your troop number and levels involved, when it took place, and any other relevant information.
Little pantry gets a glow-up
Troop 61845 took over management of the Little Free Pantry Box in Essex Junction, VT. They repainted the box and now make sure it stays clean and that the food items placed in it are unexpired and safe for the community to eat.
Sparkling at Days Jewelers
Troop 64935 of Holderness, NH; Troop 62033 of Hollis, NH; and Troop 20889 of Bennington, NH, attended the Craft and Tinker Program at Days Jewelers in Manchester, NH, on November 3.
Troop 64935 Leader Debra said: The program was wonderful, and the girls enjoyed it so much. They had fun touring the store, trying on the rings and making bracelets. The staff provided donuts, juice and water. Spent a lot of time explaining how jewelry is made and where they get the gems they use in their jewelry. Paul, Cadence and Jessica were wonderful with the girls. Very patient, informative, and thoughtful. They did not rush the girls and took a lot of time showing the girls around the store, including the back rooms, answering the girls' questions, and stayed past the two hours allotted for the event. Many, many thanks to Paul, Cadence, and Jessica for an enjoyable program.
Holiday glow
Samantha W. of Pennsylvania wanted to share her craft from a paper bag, created through her participation in a virtual craft our council offered.
Encouraging communication
Brownie Troop 62222 donated a playground communication board to Reeds Ferry School in Merrimack, NH. The Girl Scouts have been learning about inclusion and communication, including sign language. They also donated a second communication board to James Mastricola Upper Elementary School.
In an UPRAWR
Troop 58854 of Essex Junction, VT, participated in the service dog training event through Kappa Delta sorority and UPRAWR, which stands for United Puppy Raisers of ACTS and their Wagging Retrievers. ACTS is Assistance Canine Training Services. UPRAWR is a club at the University of Vermont.
Troop leader Kathleen said:
"We had an amazing experience at the UPRAWR Kappa Delta Service Dog Training event. Although meeting the dogs and learning about the training were event highlights for us, we also had a chance to meet the Kappa Delta dog trainers who work so hard from puppyhood to help these dogs prepare for their exams to be service dogs in our community. Latte, Liberty and Kiwi showed us their talents. We also made bead bracelets and met Girl Scouts from other troops over a pizza lunch. We hope to see this event planned in future years for more girls to experience!"
Troop 58854 also participated in the council’s Think Like an Engineer event, where they built catapults to fling marshmallows and designed foil boats where they competed to see whose could hold the most paperclips without sinking.

There was a Turkey Tug (had to make turkey noises while playing tug of war), Turkey Treats (had to feed the turkey the “corn” by playing cornhole), Turkey Toss (frisbees with dizzy turkeys), and crafts (handprint turkey napkin rings, pet rock turkeys, and Turkey Oreos). We had 76 people registered for this event and some great weather!

Troop 58428 in Laconia worked on their Space Science badge, making solar system, while other worked on the Animal badge, drawing wild animals and talking about them.
GirlsGiving in Gilford
Girl Scout Troop 10424 of Gilford and Laconia hosted their third annual GirlsGiving event for Service Unit 243, Girl Scouts of the Waterway Community, where the girls enjoy meeting new friends, eating pizza, playing board games and decorating cupcakes. Troop 10424 decided that instead of buying their normal decorations and purchasing crafts for the event, the money that they would have spent should be sent to a hurricane relief fund to help those still struggling. Troop 10424 will send $500 to the organization their choice, focusing on hurricane relief and cleanup duties that help families in direct need.
Each troop from the service unit that attended the event also created and brought a Thanksgiving basket with all the fixings that they donated to Lakes Region Community Services in Laconia. They plan to continue this event yearly as it brings the service unit or other troops together.

Four Manchester, NH, troops got together on November 20 for a Thanksgiving dinner at St. George Church. They called the gathering Friendsgiving.
