Susan “Twinkie” Berry
Twinkie is the camp director for Camp Whispering Pines. She is a lifetime member of Girl Scouts who has led several Girl Scout troops over the years, currently Troop 10364 in Northfield, NH. She was recognized with the Thanks Badge in 2015 and the Adult Appreciation Award in 1996. She’s been a troop product sales coordinator, a community product sales coordinator, and a volunteer support coordinator for the council. She was also named Volunteer of the Month in June 2016.
Berry is a retired English teacher who worked at Tilton Middle School for 28 years. She has long run Camp Whispering Pines and loves being at camp.
“The best part is seeing the girls get excited,” she said. “I love their enthusiasm.”
As a longtime trainer and facilitator, Berry has led the Basic Outdoor Living Skills class dozens of times and spreads her own enthusiasm to everyone.
Her nickname, Twinkie, comes from a mouse character in a children’s book she created many years ago, rather than the popular snack cake.

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains summer camp staff are responsible, enthusiastic team members who are hired based on their interest and experience in working with youth in an outdoor setting.
They are high school students, college students, parents, teachers, and others who are often current Girl Scouts or Girl Scout alumni. Staff at all camps must meet American Camp Association and Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints age requirements. At overnight camp, camp staff are candidates from all around the globe selected to help enrich your camper’s experience.
All staff (female, male, international, and domestic) complete an interview process, pass a background check, and attend on-site camp training prior to camper arrival. They are certified in CPR & First Aid and trained in outdoor skills, camp programming, and how to facilitate exceptional camping experience. This includes training on child development, behavior management, bullying intervention, abuse and neglect prevention, general camping skills, the values of Girl Scouting, curriculum planning and implementation, specific area responsibilities, and safety procedures.
They are excited to be at camp and ready to let campers lead the way in fun and adventure this summer! Most of all, they embody the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
